Welcome to Amber Wallace's personal page
As many of you know, I rarely ask for sponsorship. But this time, the cause cuts too close to home. We've been pretty quiet about my sister-in-law Melissa's story but I have her permission to share.
Last year around this time, Melissa, then 37, was diagnosed with breast cancer. My two favourite people in the world, Melissa's children, were just 5 and 6. Within a week, Melissa had one breast removed. And after the genetic testing came back positive for the BRCA1 gene (months later...), she had her other breast removed as well as several of her lady bits.
I remember day 11 of chemo clearly. My niece climbed into Melissa's lap and stroked her hair. A chunk of hair came out in Madeleine's hand. My brother and I were stunned silent. And Melissa very calmly said to the children, "Well, the good news is that means the medicine is working."
Here we are one year later and I am still amazed at Melissa's bravery and positivity.
I am running for Melissa and my dad's partner Ann - and for all the women who have shown us what courage looks like. I hope you will consider sponsoring me.
Thanks your support! Lots of love, Amber
